In a remarkable display of investigative prowess, the Aberdeen Police Station swiftly apprehended a Royal Enfield Himalayan motorcycle rider accused in a hit-and-run case within 24 hours of the incident. The dedicated team, led by Sub Inspector Nixon Isaac, meticulously pieced together the details leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The incident unfolded on the evening of January 17, 2024, near the State Bank of India ATM close to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) in Port Blair. An unidentified Royal Enfield rider collided with a pedestrian at approximately 18:15 hours, fleeing the scene hastily. The victim, unfortunately, succumbed to injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at G.B Pant Hospital.
Promptly responding to the incident, an FIR (First Information Report) No 72/2024 dated January 17, 2024, under sections 279/304(A) IPC r.w.s 134(A)/187 MV Act was registered at the Aberdeen Police Station. SI Nixon Isaac spearheaded a team consisting of SI P. Jeevan, HC/417 Vinod Kumar, PC/885 Jayraj, PC/175 Surender Singh Yadav, PC/2920 Vijay Singh, and PC/2834 Naw Elieen.
The team undertook an exhaustive investigation, meticulously reviewing CCTV footage in the vicinity. Through their efforts, they conclusively identified the involved motorcycle as a Royal Enfield and gathered detailed information on registered owners in the South Andaman District. Systematic inspections of garages and workshops were carried out, urging owners to report any Royal Enfield motorcycles brought in for repair.
A significant breakthrough occurred on the morning of January 18, 2024, when the manager of Royal Enfield reported an individual bringing a motorcycle for repair. Acting swiftly, the police intercepted the accused, initiated a thorough interrogation, and obtained a confession. The suspect was subsequently arrested, and the Royal Enfield with registration number ANO1 S 9898 was seized.
The collaborative efforts of the police team and the timely information from the vigilant Royal Enfield manager played a pivotal role in swiftly resolving the case and bringing the perpetrator to justice.
The entire investigation took place under the guidance of Mr. Vikas Swami, IPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, South Andaman, and the overall supervision of Ms. Niharika Bhatt, IPS, Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
