The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, has demanded the immediate vacation of classrooms and infrastructure within Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkeeya Mahavidyalaya (JNRM) that have been allotted for the proposed Transit Campus of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Institute of Higher Learning (NSCBIHL).

In a letter addressed to the Principal of JNRM on February 23, 2026, ABVP stated that the occupation of classrooms for what it described as an “unestablished” deemed-to-be university is adversely affecting the academic interests of existing JNRM students. The student organization pointed out that the college is already operating under significant infrastructure constraints, including an acute shortage of classrooms and academic space.

According to ABVP, JNRM’s limited infrastructure should remain exclusively available for its enrolled students. The organization termed the diversion of facilities to a newly announced institution—yet to be fully established with statutory academic and executive bodies—as unjustified and unacceptable.

The letter further noted that ongoing dissatisfaction and protests among students reflect concerns over decisions being implemented without adequately considering ground realities. ABVP warned that continuation of the present arrangement would be viewed as neglect of student welfare.

The student body has demanded that all rooms currently occupied for the Transit Campus be vacated immediately and restored for JNRM’s academic use.

The letter, signed by Satyajit Haldar, Secretary, ABVP (A&N Islands), has also been marked to the Member of Parliament, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, and the Secretary (Education), A&N Administration, seeking their intervention in the matter.

Reiterating its commitment to safeguarding the academic rights of students, ABVP indicated that failure to withdraw the occupation could lead to intensified democratic agitation.
