To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Red Ribbon Club of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Institute of Technology (DBRAIT) organised an AIDS Sensitization Programme aimed at creating awareness among students about HIV/AIDS prevention, transmission, stigma and treatment.
The programme was organised under the guidance of Mr. Altamash Mustafa, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club, Dean IQAC and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at DBRAIT.
Ms. Mini, ICTC Counsellor from ANACS, Department of Health, attended the programme as the resource person and delivered an informative and interactive session on HIV/AIDS control. She explained the causes, modes of transmission, preventive measures and the importance of timely testing. She also highlighted the role of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) in managing the disease and emphasised the need to eliminate social stigma and discrimination faced by people living with HIV/AIDS. Stressing the role of youth, she urged students to promote awareness and responsible behaviour in society.
As part of the programme, a PowerPoint Presentation Competition was conducted in which students presented on topics related to AIDS prevention, transmission, control strategies, stigma reduction and sexually transmitted infections (STIs/STDs). The competition encouraged participants to explore scientific and technical aspects of HIV/AIDS and present their findings.
The event concluded with an AIDS Awareness Quiz Competition that tested students’ knowledge on HIV/AIDS facts, prevention strategies and national and global control programmes. The quiz witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and helped reinforce the key messages shared during the sensitisation session.
The programme was organised as part of the Red Ribbon Club activities of DBRAIT to sensitise youth and promote awareness about HIV/AIDS, in line with the objective of building a well-informed and socially responsible student community.
Faculty members and students appreciated the initiative for its informative content and its contribution towards promoting health awareness, gender sensitivity and social responsibility among young learners. The programme was conducted with the support and encouragement of Prof. Sanmukh Kaur, Principal of DBRAIT.
