The Andaman & Nicobar AIDS Control Society (ANACS) has launched a special Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Van campaign to intensify awareness on HIV and AIDS across South Andaman.

The IEC Van, equipped with a backlit glow signboard displaying key awareness messages on HIV and AIDS, was flagged off by Ms. Vandana Rao, IAS, Secretary (Health), in the presence of doctors from the Directorate of Health Services, officials of ANACS and other dignitaries.

Fitted with illuminated display boards and a public address system, the van aims to disseminate accurate and timely information directly to the public in both rural and urban areas. The initiative seeks to reach people at their doorsteps and strengthen community-level awareness on HIV prevention and care.

The six-day campaign, which began on 25th February 2026, will continue till March 2. The awareness drive is being conducted daily from 4 pm to 9 pm along designated routes across South Andaman.

The campaign focuses on educating people about the modes of HIV transmission and preventive measures, promoting the importance of timely HIV testing, and highlighting the treatment and care services available for People Living with HIV (PLHIV).

Dr. Subrata Saha, Project Director, ANACS, said the campaign aims to promote responsible behaviour, encourage early testing, and foster a supportive and non-discriminatory attitude towards PLHIV. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Jahanara Yasmeen, Deputy Director (MS & IEC), ANACS.
