Andaman and Nicobar Islands to Commemorate 133rd Birth Anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar on 14th April; 14th April Declared Public Holiday

As the 133rd birth anniversary of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar approaches on April 14th, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Administration gears up to honour the legacy of the revered leader. In line with tradition, a solemn function is set to take place on the occasion, where floral tributes will be paid to Dr. Ambedkar at his statue near the main entrance of the Ambedkar Auditorium.

Leading the tribute will be Admiral DK Joshi, PVSM, AVSM, YSM, NM, VSM (Retd.), the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of the A&N Islands and Vice Chairman of the Islands Development Agency. Admiral Joshi will be joined by officials and members of the community to honour the memory of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, whose contributions to social justice and equality continue to inspire generations.

All residents are invited to participate in the tribute ceremony, scheduled to commence at 0915 hrs on April 14th, 2024. Organisers have emphasised the importance of adhering to all rules and regulations, particularly those concerning the Model Code of Conduct, to ensure a respectful and orderly observance of the occasion.

In recognition of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s significance in Indian history and his enduring impact on society, the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor has declared April 14th, 2024, a public holiday across the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands including for Industrial Establishments. This decision aligns with the directives outlined in the Government of India’s Office Memorandum Number 12/4/2020-jca, issued by the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Department of Personnel and Training on March 14th, 2024.

As the nation pauses to commemorate the life and achievements of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the public holiday serves as a moment for reflection and appreciation of his vision for a more just and equitable society.
