In a groundbreaking move set to redefine dermatological care in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) has launched cutting-edge surgical procedures within the Skin Department of GB Pant Hospital (GBPH). This latest development aims to provide advanced surgical solutions for a diverse range of skin conditions, heralding a new era of comprehensive healthcare services in the region.

The unveiling of the Dermatology Surgery unit, housed in Room No. 42 of GB Pant Hospital, marks a significant milestone for the institution, reaffirming its dedication to delivering high-quality healthcare services to the community. With the rising demand for specialized treatment for various skin issues, the establishment of this unit addresses a crucial gap in the provision of healthcare services. It aims to cater to patients seeking treatment for non-cancerous skin growths, nail surgeries, scar removal, and other cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Arisha Salem, a distinguished member of the Department of Dermatology at GB Pant Hospital, brings expertise honed through specialized training in Mumbai to the islanders. Equipped to handle a spectrum of dermatological surgical procedures, Dr. Salem is proficient in the removal of benign and malignant skin growths, including moles, warts, sebaceous cysts, dermoid cysts, and benign tumours. Additionally, the unit offers cosmetic procedures designed to enhance skin appearance, such as scar revision, skin grafting, ear lobe repair, nose piercing closure, and chemical peels for acne and skin discolouration.

In the pipeline are advanced modalities including hair transplant surgery for patients grappling with hair loss and baldness, as well as fat transfer and biofillers. The introduction of these services in Port Blair eliminates the need for islanders to travel long distances for specialized care, enhancing accessibility and convenience while ensuring timely and effective management of skin disorders.

Furthermore, the initiative holds promise for the education and training of budding doctors at ANIIMS, offering invaluable opportunities for learning and research in world-class procedures. By spearheading these advancements, ANIIMS reaffirms its commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery, grounded in compassion, integrity, and innovation.

The introduction of state-of-the-art dermatology surgical procedures at GB Pant Hospital marks a significant leap forward in ANIIMS’s mission to provide exemplary healthcare services to the Islanders, underscoring its unwavering dedication to the well-being of the community.
