Construction Division, Andaman Public Works Department, Campbell Bay conducted a seminar on 10 August at Community Hall, Campbell Bay on “New Technology to Adopt ‘GSB’ in Road Construction.
The seminar was organised as a part of the celebration of India @ 75 : AZADI KA AMRIT MAHOTSAV. The residents from all villages of Campbell Bay participated in the seminar and gained knowledge on road construction.
The seminar was conducted under the leadership of Mr. Denis, Executive Engineer, Construction Division, APWD, Campbell Bay in the presence of Mr. Ratish Kumar, Assistant Engineer (Civil); Mr. Asim Sarkar, Assistant Engineer (E&M); Mr. Mahendran, Junior Engineer; Mrs. Shakila Jalal, Junior Engineer and other staffs of APWD.
The first section of the seminar was conducted by Mrs. Shakila Jalal, Junior Engineer and the second part was conducted by Mr. Mr. Ratish Kumar, Assistant Engineer (Civil).
The main aim of the seminar was to educate the general public about the new technology in road construction which is being adopted in the Islands i.e using Granular Sub Base.
Mr. Ratish Kumar conducted the session on use of plastic waste in road construction and explained how it is beneficial for both the environment and helps make the road stronger.
Questions were taken from the general public and in response to one of the questions on warranty period of the roads, Mr. Ratish Kumar explained that according to the new rules of the MORTH, the contractor constructing the road will have to maintain it for a period of five years.
Such seminars on technical aspects of road construction for the general public should be highly appreciated, as it helps in making the society aware of the quality of works executed near them.
