A five-day Capacity Building Program on Competency-Based Learning and Assessment for Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) in Physics and Chemistry is being organized by the Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with the State Institute of Education (SIE), Sri Vijaya Puram. The program, which began on February 10 2025, will continue till February 14, 2025. The program is being held at the Conference Hall of Shiksha Sadan.
The initiative aims to equip teachers with modern tools and techniques to create engaging learning experiences and assess students’ actual competencies. The focus is on preparing students for real-world challenges and fostering a skill-oriented educational ecosystem in line with the New Education Policy (NEP).
Prof. P.C. Agarwal, Principal of RIE, NCERT, Bhubaneswar, and Mr. Vikram Singh, Director (Education), Andaman and Nicobar Administration, graced the inaugural function as special guests.
In his address, Mr. Vikram Singh emphasized the importance of improving teaching quality to enhance the overall standard of education in the Union Territory. Prof. Agarwal highlighted the NEP’s vision of competency-based education, which encourages a shift from traditional teaching methods to competency-focused approaches in core subjects like Physics and Chemistry.
Earlier, Ms. Sangeeta Chand, Principal of the State Institute of Education, welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the program.
The training is expected to empower teachers with strategies for fostering dynamic, student-centric learning environments, ultimately contributing to the holistic development of students in the region.
