A significant Capacity Building Programme aimed at enhancing the skills of Key Resource Persons (KRPs) of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy commenced on 06th February 2024 at GSS Junglighat. Organized by the Regional Institute of Education, NCERT, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with SIE Port Blair, the five-day event is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing educational standards in the Union Territory.
Mr. R.K. Singh, Principal of SIE Port Blair, inaugurated the programme, lauding the efforts of RIE Bhubaneswar in conducting such vital initiatives for the UT. He stressed the importance of implementing Foundational Literacy and Numeracy in schools and communities, emphasising adherence to both national norms and local contexts.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Laxmidhar Behera, Head of the Department of Education at RIE NCERT Bhubaneswar and the Programme Coordinator, delineated the objectives of the programme. He underscored various initiatives by the Government of India and NCERT, aligning with the National Education Policy 2020, such as Vidya Pravesh, NIPUN Bharat, Jadui Pitra, and NISHTHA-FLN, designed to foster quality learning outcomes during the foundational years of education.
The programme boasts a cadre of esteemed resource persons, including experts from NIE NCERT, RIEs of NCERT, SIE Port Blair, and other reputed organisations, poised to deliver valuable insights and guidance. Dr. R. Manoharan from SIE Port Blair extended a warm welcome to all participants, setting an encouraging tone for the commencement of the programme.
The Capacity Building Programme on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy signifies a concerted effort towards bolstering educational capabilities in A&N Islands, heralding a promising step towards nurturing a strong foundation for future generations.
