In a landmark judgment, Mr. Bhawani Shanker Sharma, Hon’ble Additional Sessions Judge –Cum- Special Court (POCSO Act), South Andaman District, Port Blair, pronounced a significant verdict on March 22, 2024. The judgment pertained to two cases registered at PS Pahargaon under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012, FIR No. 66/21 dated 30/07/2021 and FIR No. 82/21 dated 09/09/2021, against accused R Muniya Swamy.
Accused R Muniya Swamy faced charges under various sections of the POCSO Act 2012 and the Indian Penal Code. The investigations were meticulously conducted by SI Silpi Singha and then SI Gracefield, under the guidance of Insp. Girish Kumar, the then SHO PS Pahargaon, and the overarching supervision of the Superintendent of Police, South Andaman District.
The Hon’ble Court, after due deliberation, sentenced the accused R Muniya Swamy to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment, coupled with a fine of Rs. 50,000/-. This verdict marks a significant milestone in the fight against child abuse and stands as a testament to the relentless pursuit of justice by the A&N Police, particularly the investigating officers and their superiors.
The judgment underscores the gravity of the offence and serves as a powerful deterrent against such heinous acts. It sends a clear message to society that perpetrators of crimes against children will face severe consequences for their actions.
