In a groundbreaking move to address the critical mental health needs of individuals, the Tele-Mental Health Assistance and Networking across States (Tele-MANAS) initiative was unveiled on October 10, 2022, coinciding with World Mental Health Day. This initiative, aimed at providing free Tele-Mental Health Services nationwide, especially targeting remote and underserved areas, marks a significant step forward in mental healthcare accessibility.

The cornerstone of this initiative is the establishment of a Toll-Free 24X7 Helpline Number, 14416 or 1800-891-4416, dedicated to delivering Tele-Mental healthcare services to the residents of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (A&N Islands). Recognising the persistent stigma associated with mental illness and the reluctance of individuals to seek help, Tele-MANAS aims to bridge this gap by offering round-the-clock support.

Mental illness is often misunderstood and stigmatised, leading individuals to suffer in silence without seeking help. Through Tele-MANAS, the Government is striving to provide accessible and stigma-free mental health support to those in need, regardless of their location.

The Tele-MANAS Cell, stationed at the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) campus, operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with a team of trained counsellors, clinical psychologists, and psychiatrists. Since its inception, the Tele-MANAS Cell has responded to over 1000 calls through the Toll-Free Number, offering timely support and guidance to individuals grappling with various mental health challenges.

From addressing mood disorders and sleep disturbances to providing assistance with relationship issues and exam-related stress, the dedicated Tele-MANAS team is committed to offering telephonic counselling and support. When necessary, the team can also facilitate referrals to Mental Health Professionals for further assistance.

The Tele-MANAS Helpline Number, 14416 or 1800-891-4416, stands as a beacon of hope for individuals seeking mental health and wellness services, offering a lifeline for those in distress.

For individuals in need of mental health support, the Tele-MANAS Helpline Number is readily available, offering confidential and compassionate assistance round-the-clock.
