Dry Days Declared in Specific Areas of South Andaman for Panchayat and Municipal Bye-Elections

The Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate, South Andaman District, has declared February 8 and February 10, 2026, as “Dry Days” in connection with the ensuing bye-elections in select Gram Panchayat and Municipal areas of the district.

The order has been issued in accordance with the provisions of Section 135C of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and Clause 4.3(a)(7) of the Andaman and Nicobar Excise Policy, 2013.

As per the notification, February 8, 2026, the date of polling, and February 10, 2026, the date of counting, will be observed as Dry Days for the bye-election to the Gram Panchayat Member Constituencies of Mannarghat-4 under Gram Panchayat Mannarghat and Bambooflat-1 under Gram Panchayat Hope Town, both falling under Ferrargunj Tehsil. The Dry Day order will also apply to the bye-election of Ward Councillor for Ward No. 17 of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council under Sri Vijaya Puram Tehsil.

On the specified days, no liquor shops, hotels, restaurants, clubs or any other establishments selling or serving liquor shall be permitted to sell or serve liquor in the entire areas of Gram Panchayat Mannarghat, Gram Panchayat Hope Town, and Ward No. 17 of the Sri Vijaya Puram Municipal Council.

The prohibition will be applicable to all IMFL vending licence holders, including ANIIDCO outlets, CSD canteens, all Defence Canteens (URCs), Police Messes, and all private bar licensees operating within the notified Gram Panchayat and Municipal Ward areas.

The order has been issued to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of the bye-elections, and strict compliance has been directed.
