The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued a notification prohibiting the conducting, publishing, or publicising of exit polls in any form between 7 am on April 19, 2024, and 6:30 pm on June 1, 2024. This directive comes into effect in connection with the General Elections-2024.

During this period, it is strictly prohibited to conduct, publish, or disseminate the results of any exit poll through print or electronic media or in any other manner. Additionally, the display of any election-related content, including the results of opinion polls or surveys, on electronic media, is prohibited during the 48 hours leading up to the conclusion of the poll.

The Election Commission has reminded all concerned parties of the provisions outlined in the Representation of People Act, 1951, which deal with contraventions of these regulations.

In particular, electorates within the Andaman & Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency have been urged to exercise caution and adhere to these guidelines to avoid any actions that may contravene the statutory provisions.

The ECI’s move aims to ensure a fair and unbiased electoral process and to maintain the integrity of the democratic exercise in India.
