In a surprising twist of fate, Mr. Sudeep Rai Sharma, the esteemed Councillor of Ward No. 13, has clinched victory in the election for the PBMC Chairperson, securing his position for the third year term (2024-2025).

Indian National Congress endorsed Mr. Sudeep Rai Sharma as their contender for the prestigious position of PBMC Chairperson.

This triumph marks a significant shift in power dynamics, considering that the previous term was held by a candidate from the BJP + TDP Alliance. The victory of the Congress candidate adds a new dimension to the political landscape of Port Blair.

Port Blair, the capital city, grapples with various challenges, prominently among them being the persistent issue of power cuts. The onus now falls on the newly elected Chairperson of PBMC to navigate these challenges and address the concerns of the city’s residents effectively.

Mr. Sudeep Rai Sharma’s ascendancy deals a substantial blow to the BJP while bolstering the Congress’s influence in the Islands’ political arena.

Notably, Mr. Sudeep Rai Sharma is the brother of the incumbent Member of Parliament, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, who is also the current Congress candidate from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency.

The recently concluded poll for the Lok Sabha Election in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, held on April 19, 2024, has sealed the fate of Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma and other contenders, with their destinies now resting within the electronic voting machines (EVMs). The eagerly awaited counting of votes for the Lok Sabha Elections is scheduled for June 4, 2024.
