Legal Awareness Programme Held at Calicut Gram Panchayat Hall

The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Andaman & Nicobar Islands, organised a Legal Awareness Programme at the Calicut Gram Panchayat Hall on 24th December 2025, in collaboration with PRAYAS JAC, with the objective of enhancing legal awareness among the public at the grassroots level.

The programme was presided over by Shri Neyaz Alam, Learned Additional District Judge, who graced the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Shri Jayanta Mukherjee, Learned Judicial Magistrate First Class (2nd Court), Port Blair, spoke in detail on the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act). He elaborated on the key provisions of the Act and explained the procedure for filing complaints before the Local Committee.

Shri Mukherjee also sensitised the participants on issues related to civil disputes, domestic violence, and litigation procedures. He highlighted the role and functions of the Legal Services Authorities in ensuring access to justice, particularly for vulnerable and marginalized sections of society.

The programme was attended by Shri T. Yaghambaram, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Calicut, along with members of the general public. The session was coordinated by Ms. Maria Sheela, Regional Head, PRAYAS JAC, while Shri K. Vijay Kumar, Advisor, PRAYAS JAC, was also present on the occasion.

The programme witnessed active participation and interaction from the attendees, contributing to greater legal awareness and understanding among the local community.
