EX-PRI’s Successfully Negotiate : Regular Ships with Tentative Monthly Schedule, 4G Mobile Connectivity by the End of the Year, 13-15 Helicopter Seats a week, Electric and Water Connections for Eligible Encroachers etc.
Port Blair, Nov 21 2020
The protests, bandh and chakka jam called by the Ex-PRI’s of Great Nicobar, which was scheduled to be held on Monday has been called off. The local administration negotiated with the public leaders and accepted almost all the demands put forward by them, in their joint representation.
The EX-PRI’s together were able to negotiate the best deal for the Islanders of Great Nicobar.
Earlier on 16th of November 2020 one of the EX-PRI, had highjacked some of the agenda’s from the joint representation sent by the EX-PRI’s together to the administration and started a self styled protest in Campbell Bay. The crowd for the protest was gathered from his own community by announcing a fine on anyone who doesn’t attend the protest. The whole thing was planned in coordination with the head of their community, who can enforce fines on those individuals and families, who are not in line with the decisions made in the meetings of the community.
The self styled protest of the individual Ex-PRI did not fetch any result for the residents of Great Nicobar and was a complete flop show. What they were able to achieve was a note written by the Assistant Commissioner on a letter submitted and signed by the said Ex-PRI. The gist of the note was that the demands put forward by the protestors may be fulfilled from the coming months.
The demands listed by the individual EX-PRI for the protest on 16th of November 2020 included 03 regular ship sailings for Campbell Bay every month and 02 all port ship sailings for Campbell Bay, further he also demanded 4G Mobile Connectivity for Campbell Bay. None of those demands were met, even partially. Just a note saying maybe your demands will be accepted was given to him. For 4G Mobile connectivity the JTO of BSNL had specifically mentioned the month of February as the date of commissioning.
The Ex-PRI’s then decided to go forward with their protests together as planned earlier and did not bow down to the highjacking tactics of one of their colleagues, who has a vested agenda behind going ahead with the protests without consultation with any other leaders.
Finally the joint action of the EX-PRI’s to call for the protests brought great deals for the Islanders of Great Nicobar. The negotiation with the local administration resulted in increase in the number of seats in the Pawan Hans Helicopters to about 13-15 per week. The demand of three regular ships per month and two all port ships per month were also accepted which will be subject to COVID-19 Pandemic situation and weather conditions and now the residents of Great Nicobar will also get the tentative schedule of the ships for the complete month in advance.
The residents of Campbell Bay will also get some new broadband connections within a month and 4G, 3G connectivity by the end of the year, which is a month away from now. The EX-PRI’s were also able to negotiate water and electricity connections for the eligible encroachers, the issuing of connections were reportedly stopped earlier.
The issue of unavailability of adequate teachers for different subjects in schools of Campbell Bay were also raised and the Zonal Officer (Education) assured the teachers will be made available immediately.
These negotiations and the best results were achieved because the EX-PRI’s together in one voice, demanded what was right and fair for the Islanders of Great Nicobar. Rather than individually trying to highjack the agendas for their own political gain, just like in the case of the protests which were staged on 16th of November 2020.
The Assistant Commissioner, Campbell Bay coordinated the demands to the Deputy Commissioner and they together worked out the demands with the higher authorities to get relief and better facilities for the residents of Great Nicobar said one the EX-PRI while speaking to Nicobar Times on phone, late this evening.
John C. Maxwell an American writer, speaker and pastor has rightly said “A leader is, one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” The EX-PRI’s of Campbell Bay should be lauded for their leadership, except for the one who tried highjacking their agendas with vested interests.
The local body elections in the entire Islands are approaching and the political parties should consider striking seats of parasitic leaders, who suck away the hopes of the entire population, for their own political gains.
