Continuing the ongoing programme of laying foundation stones for developmental works across the Islands, the Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Mr. Bishnu Pada Ray, laid foundation stones for improvement and renovation of rural roads at five locations in Ferrargunj Tehsil.
The foundation stones were laid at Sonapahar under Ferrargunj Panchayat and at Brindaban (05), Mathura (01), Mathura Junction and Kadakachang under Brindaban Gram Panchayat. The works have been sanctioned under the Central Road Fund (CRF) by the Government of India through the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Mr. Prakash Adhikari, Adhyaksha, Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, along with members of the respective Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti, Panchayat Pradhans, officials of the Andaman Public Works Department (APWD), commuters and residents of the concerned areas were present on the occasion and witnessed the foundation-laying ceremonies.
Local residents and commuters, particularly members of the Ranchi community who have reportedly been facing difficulties for several years due to the lack of proper road connectivity, expressed their happiness over the initiative. They felicitated the MP with garlands during the programme as a mark of appreciation.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Ray assured residents that other local issues, including water pipelines, electricity supply lines and construction of remaining roads in the area, would also be taken up with the concerned authorities.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prakash Adhikari expressed happiness over the developmental works being undertaken in the South Andaman area during his tenure and conveyed his gratitude to the Member of Parliament.
Mr. V. K. Abdul Aziz, Zilla Parishad Member representing the Brindaban Constituency, also thanked the MP for facilitating CRF funds for the constituency and stated that the works would bring significant relief to commuters and residents of areas under the Brindaban Gram Panchayat.
