In a move to strengthen livestock services and boost the genetic potential of the bovine population in the islands, the Department of Animal Husbandry organized a one-day training programme on Artificial Insemination (AI) at the Veterinary Hospital, Junglighat.

The training aimed to update the knowledge and refine the practical skills of field-level veterinary staff, with a strong focus on advanced AI techniques, semen handling and storage, reproductive health management, and systematic record-keeping. Special emphasis was laid on maintaining hygienic and timely insemination practices to achieve better conception rates in cattle.

Dr. Dawande Kuldip N, Senior Veterinary Officer, led the session by demonstrating AI procedures and offering valuable guidance on managing reproductive disorders in field conditions. He urged participants to implement their learnings at the grassroots level to benefit livestock-rearing communities.

Ten para-veterinarians from Junglighat and the Rinderpest Unit took part in the training. The participants expressed appreciation for the hands-on approach and interactive nature of the session, noting that it helped refresh and deepen their technical understanding.

The Department of Animal Husbandry has announced plans to conduct similar training programmes regularly across the islands to ensure consistent and high-quality AI service delivery.
