A three-day Refresher Training-cum-Exhibition for trained Nodal Teachers of Government and Government Aided Schools from South Andaman, North & Middle Andaman, and Nicobar districts was organised from Feb. 26 to 28 at the Conference Hall of Shiksha Sadan.

The programme, focused on Health and Wellness Ambassadors (HWA) under the Ayushman Bharat–School Health and Wellness Programme (AB-SHWP), was jointly initiated by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. It was organised by the Science Wing of the Directorate of Education in collaboration with the Health Department, A&N Administration.

The training programme was inaugurated by Mr. Gyan Sheel Dubey, Head of Office, Directorate of Education, SVP, as the chief guest, in the presence of Dr. Shiny Varghese, Deputy Director (Family Welfare), Directorate of Health Services, who attended as the guest of honour.

A total of 55 teachers, including Graduate Trained Teachers (GTTs), Physical Education Teachers (PETs), and Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), representing all educational zones, participated in the programme. The refresher training aimed at strengthening the capacity of nodal teachers to effectively implement health and wellness activities in schools and to promote awareness among students on various health-related issues.

On the second day, participants undertook a field visit to Government Secondary School (GSS), Calicut. During the visit, the teachers showcased innovative and creative Teaching-Learning Materials (TLMs) to students, facilitating interactive sessions on health awareness. The exhibition and interaction were well received and served to sensitise students on key health and wellness themes.

The valedictory session was held on March 1, 2026, with Mr. Ram Parvesh, Deputy Director of Education (Science), gracing the occasion as the chief guest. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to strengthening school-based health initiatives across the Islands.
