In a joint effort to promote sustainable agricultural practices, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, organized a hands-on training and demonstration program on the preparation of natural farming components at Ferrargunj on July 14, 2025.

The program aimed to encourage farmers to adopt eco-friendly methods to enhance productivity and reduce chemical dependency in farming. Ms. Padmawati, Pramukh, Panchayat Samiti, Ferrargunj, attended the event as the chief guest. She was joined by Mr. A. Rajan, member of the Panchayat Samiti, and other PRI members from Gram Panchayat Ferrargunj.

During the session, Dr. Satish Kumar, Senior Veterinary Officer (SVO), explained the fundamentals of natural farming and demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrut and Neemastra—organic solutions known to improve soil fertility and pest resistance. Dr. Sunita Roy, SVO, briefed the participants on the department’s ongoing efforts to popularize natural farming, while Dr. Subhash B. Palve, SVO, encouraged households to rear at least one cow or buffalo to meet their dairy needs.

Mr. Ravi Sutradhar, Agriculture Officer, provided detailed information on the ingredients and preparation techniques for Jeevamrut and Neemastra.

The program concluded with a live demonstration of the preparation processes. Farmers were provided with 2 litres of Jeevamrut prepared at the Livestock Farm Complex, Dollygunj, and the Agriculture Department distributed Neemastra to all attendees. The session saw active participation from farmers, who raised queries that were promptly addressed.

In her remarks, Ms. Padmawati appreciated the initiative and urged the Departments to conduct similar training sessions in other Panchayats. She emphasized the importance of natural farming in ensuring sustainable livelihoods for farmers.
