The recurring problem of floods in Diglipur has prompted Mr. TSG Bhasker, Chairman of the ANTCC Campaign Committee, to voice his concerns and call for immediate action from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary on Wednesday, Mr. Bhasker expressed gratitude for the swift relief efforts provided by the administration following recent floods. However, he emphasized the urgent need for a long-term solution to the annual devastation caused by these natural calamities.

ā€œOver the past 4 to 5 years, the people of Diglipur have suffered immense harm and loss due to frequent flooding,ā€ Mr. Bhasker stated. ā€œThese floods have resulted in significant damage to property and crops, severely impacting the livelihoods of many, particularly the poor and vulnerable sections of our community who lack the means to cope with such disasters.ā€

Mr. Bhasker outlined several measures that could help mitigate the impact of future floods. His suggestions include the construction of flood-resistant infrastructure, the development of an effective disaster management system, and the removal of illegal structures that obstruct drainage systems. He also recommended the identification and timely cleaning of gutters and drains, increased attention to waste collection in critical areas, and the designation of flood-prone zones.

ā€œThe implementation of these measures is crucial to safeguarding the lives and properties of Diglipur residents,ā€ Mr. Bhasker urged. ā€œI request the Chief Secretary to take urgent steps to address the flood issue and ensure that adequate measures are in place to prevent such occurrences in the future.ā€

The call for action comes in the wake of recent floods that have once again highlighted the vulnerability of Diglipur to natural disasters. As the region braces for potential future incidents, the focus is now on the administrationā€™s response and the implementation of sustainable solutions to protect the community from further harm.
