Bambooflat had witnessed a tragic incident on February 10, 2023, as a teacher had lost his life in a devastating accident involving a heavily loaded vehicle. The aftermath of this incident spurred Mrs. V D Leju, a dedicated social worker from Hope Town, into action, propelling her to petition the Chief Secretary of the Andaman and Nicobar Administration for crucial reforms aimed at reducing such fatal accidents.
Mrs. Leju passionately advocated for immediate action to prevent further tragedies. She specifically highlighted the urgent need for a speed breaker at the site of the fatal accident, a spot notorious for past accidents. Her plea resonated with her commitment to the community’s welfare and her unwavering mission to mitigate such tragic occurrences.
In response to Mrs. Leju’s persistent efforts, an email from the Chief Engineer affirmed the acceptance of her proposal for constructing the much-needed speed breakers. The decision came after a comprehensive evaluation by a committee comprising officials from the Police, Transport, and APWD.
The Andaman Public Works Department (APWD) swiftly initiated the implementation phase, commencing the erection of speed breakers spanning from Wimberlygunj Junction to Crescent School. Additionally, strategic locations along State Highways 9 and 10 are receiving attention for the installation of these crucial safety measures.
Notably, the focus extends to safeguarding areas surrounding schools, where speed-induced accidents often pose significant risks. The deliberate placement of speed breakers near educational institutions aims to curtail high-speed incidents and enhance overall road safety.
Expressing gratitude, Mrs. V D Leju extended her heartfelt appreciation to the APWD and the Police for their collaborative efforts in facilitating the approval and execution of these life-saving measures. The proactive response of the authorities reflects a shared commitment to fostering a safer environment for all residents and commuters in Bambooflat and its vicinity.
