The Directorate of Social Welfare spearheaded a significant initiative, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan Marathon, aimed at raising awareness about the perils of drug abuse and advocating for a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The event garnered enthusiastic participation from individuals across various sectors of society, emphasising a collective effort in combating drug addiction.
The marathon kicked off from Marina Park, witnessing a vibrant procession of runners embarking on a spirited journey that culminated at the picturesque Corbyn’s Cove Beach. Over 200 participants, representing the Police Department, IRBn, CISF, Indian Army, Child Care Institutions, and the general public of Port Blair, added fervour to the cause.
Mr. L. Kumar, IAS, Secretary of Social Welfare, graced the event as the chief guest, providing a significant boost to the morale of the runners and emphasizing the gravity of the campaign against drug abuse. Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director of Social Welfare, participated in the marathon, setting a commendable example for others.
Recognition was bestowed upon the top ten finishers, with Mr. N. Eswaran from the Indian Army emerging as the champion. Special accolades were extended to noteworthy participants, including Ms. G. Bhavani, Mr. A. Ramakrishna, and Master Akshit Babu from Carmel School, through consolation prizes. Secretary (Social Welfare) and Director (Social Welfare) presented the awards, underlining the significance of community engagement in fostering a drug-free society.
During their addresses, the dignitaries reiterated the importance of collective endeavours in fostering a healthier society devoid of substance abuse. The Nodal Officer (Prohibition) concluded the event with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the concerted efforts of all participants and stakeholders in advancing the noble cause of a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
