Election Commission Reviews Election Preparedness and Law & Order Situation in Inter-State Border Meeting

The Election Commission of India convened a crucial Inter-State Border Meeting on 4th April 2024, bringing together key officials from various states and Union Territories (UTs) to assess election preparedness and the law and order situation. Conducted virtually, the meeting aimed to ensure effective coordination ahead of the General Elections to Lok Sabha – 2024.

High-ranking officials including Chief Secretaries, Director Generals of Police (DGPs), Principal Secretaries (Home), Principal Secretaries (Excise), and representatives from various security agencies participated in the discussion. Among them were DG (BSF), DG (SSB), DG (ITBP), DG (Assam Rifles), DG (Coast Guard), and State Police Nodal Officers (SPNOs) from all states and UTs.

The agenda primarily focused on reviewing election preparedness and the law and order situation, particularly in UTs and areas bordering states where elections are scheduled. Key points discussed included measures to monitor inter-state border movements, strategies for preventing and detaining anti-social elements, plans for surveillance and sealing of entry and exit points, as well as porous inter-state borders. Additionally, discussions encompassed the declaration of Dry Day and Paid Holiday.

In addition to election-related matters, the Commission also scrutinised the actions taken by enforcement agencies to curb illicit activities such as liquor and narcotics/drugs smuggling, distribution of freebies, bullion, and cash flow during the election period.

Representatives from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, including Chief Secretary Mr. Keshav Chandra, Director General of Police Mr. Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Chief Electoral Officer Mr. B S Jaglan, and other officials, actively participated in the virtual meeting.
