ICAR-CIARI and Department of AH&VS Celebrate World Veterinary Day with Animal Health Camp in Ranganchang Village

In commemoration of World Veterinary Day, the Division of Animal Sciences at ICAR-CIARI, in partnership with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS), A&N Administration, orchestrated an extensive animal health camp in Ranganchang village, Boednabad Panchayat, on April 26, 2024.

Under the overarching theme of “Veterinarians are Essential Health Workers,” this year’s World Veterinary Day aims to spotlight the pivotal role veterinarians undertake, not only in safeguarding animal health but also in mitigating the risks of zoonotic diseases.

The health camp offered a myriad of services, including comprehensive health assessments, fertility appraisals, pregnancy diagnostics, mass deworming initiatives, and the administration of vital vitamin and mineral supplements. Over 100 animals, spanning cattle, goats, and poultry, received attentive veterinary care during the event.

Dr. E.B. Chakurkar, Director of ICAR-CIARI, took the opportunity to elucidate on scientific management practices, advocating for timely deworming, optimal feeding regimes, and efficient reproductive management strategies. He commended the concerted efforts of ICAR-CIARI scientists and Dr. T.P. Swapna, Senior Veterinary Officer at Rangachang, while underscoring the necessity for regular animal health camps in the future.

Dr. Jai Sunder, Head of the Division of Animal Science, underscored the imperative of livestock health management, particularly stressing the routine utilisation of vaccinations to combat prevalent diseases like foot and mouth disease.

Dr. D. Bhattacharya, Dr. T. Sujatha, Dr. P.A. Bala, Dr. K. Muniswamy, Dr. R.R. Alyethodi, Dr. P. Perumal, and Dr. S. Yeligar were also present to provide medical attention and guidance to the animals brought in for examination, addressing a spectrum of concerns related to scientific management practices. Mineral blends, vitamin tonics, and deworming medications were dispensed to all participating farmers.

The farmers of Rangachang village extended their heartfelt appreciation to ICAR-CIARI and the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services for spearheading the initiative and furnishing invaluable support, reaffirming the profound impact of collaborative efforts in advancing animal welfare and agricultural sustainability.
