In a relentless crackdown on poaching activities, the North & Middle Andaman District Police have apprehended six more foreign poachers, bringing the total tally to nine within a week. The operation, spearheaded by the Police Station (PS) Kalighat, targeted the mangroves and creek areas of Loha Tikrey, known to be hotspots for illegal poaching activities.
Dividing into three teams, law enforcement personnel conducted thorough combing operations in the dense jungle and creek regions. Their efforts bore fruit when they stumbled upon a group of poachers concealed within the depths of the jungle. Despite police orders to surrender, the poachers attempted to flee into the wilderness. However, the police team swiftly pursued and successfully apprehended all six offenders.
The detained poachers were promptly transported to PS Kalighat and handed over to the PS CCS for further investigation. Meanwhile, the anti-poaching team continues its search operation to root out any remaining offenders.
The commendable bravery displayed by the anti-poaching team has garnered praise, with assurances of suitable rewards for their efforts. The entire operation was conducted under the vigilant supervision of Ms. Geetanjali Khandelwal, IPS, Superintendent of Police (D) N&MA.
Authorities urge the general public and fishermen to remain vigilant and report any sightings of foreign boats or nationals to the nearest Police Station or through emergency hotlines at 100, 112, and 03192-273344. Informants’ identities will be kept confidential, and they will be duly rewarded for their cooperation in combating illegal activities.
