In a significant development today, Mr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Adhyaksh of Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, addressed the press in a conference held at the Zilla Parishad’s conference hall on March 11, 2024. The primary agenda of the conference was to highlight the remarkable achievements made by the Zilla Parishad over the past year under his leadership.
Adhyaksh Sanjay Kumar Singh commenced the conference by announcing that the Zilla Parishad has successfully sanctioned a groundbreaking 86 developmental projects across constituencies within the span of just one year, marking a notable record. Emphasising the importance of transparency in project implementation, he credited this ethos for the seamless functioning of the Zilla Parishad and the significant scale of development witnessed in rural areas.
Responding to queries regarding the availability of funds, particularly given the sanctioned budget exceeding Rs. 15.00 crore, Adhyaksh Singh acknowledged the cooperation received from the A & N Administration, led by Chief Secretary Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS. He commended the Administration for its timely allocation of funds and guidance, crucial for the Parishad’s operations.
Furthermore, Adhyaksh Singh lauded the coordinated efforts of the Engineering, Accounts, and Planning wings of the Zilla Parishad, South Andaman, recognising their pivotal role in facilitating the sanction and execution of numerous projects.
Addressing concerns raised by the PRIs regarding their functioning as institutions of local self-government and the devolution of power, Adhyaksh Singh disclosed that the A & N Administration had formed a committee dedicated to reviewing the devolution of functions. He revealed that the committee had conducted several meetings, with decisions pending on specific departmental functions, following which the matter would be finalised.
