A comprehensive two-day training session on Navjaat Sishu Suraksha Karyakram (NSSK) was successfully conducted for Nursing Officers at the Conference Hall of AYUSH Hospital in Port Blair on February 27 and 28. NSSK, a vital program aimed at imparting essential skills in newborn care and resuscitation, aims to address crucial aspects of neonatal health such as preventing hypothermia, averting infections, promoting early breastfeeding initiation, and conducting basic newborn resuscitation.

The training program, crucial for healthcare personnel dealing with neonatal care, brought together 32 Nursing Officers from various health institutions. Under the supervision of Dr. Suja Antony, Director of Health Services, and Dr. Avijit Roy, Joint Secretary (RCH-II), the sessions were meticulously designed to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to handle newborns effectively.

Dr. Shiny Verghese, Principal of the Nursing School, and Dr. Kumar Gaurav, General Duty Medical Officer (Paediatrics), served as resource persons for the training. Their expertise and guidance proved invaluable in enhancing the participants’ understanding and proficiency in newborn care and resuscitation techniques.

The significance of such training cannot be overstated, as newborn care and resuscitation serve as fundamental pillars in any neonatal healthcare program. With the successful completion of this training session, Nursing Officers are now better equipped to provide optimal care to newborns, ensuring their health and well-being right from the moment of birth.
