Nomination Papers Filed by 13 Candidates Accepted in Scrutiny, Nomination Papers of Two Candidates Rejected

The scrutiny of nomination papers for the General Elections to the House of People from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency took place on March 28, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Returning Officer, ANIPC. The session was conducted in the presence of the General Observer, aspiring candidates, and authorised representatives of political parties.

The process, which began at 11 am, in the presence of Mr. B.N Singh, IAS, the General Observer of the Constituency. Nomination papers filed until 3 pm on March 27, 2024, were scrutinised as per the prescribed procedure laid down under the law.

During the scrutiny, all nomination papers and affidavits were displayed for examination by the authorised representatives. Participants were provided with reasonable opportunities to review the nomination papers of all candidates. The scrutiny proceeded systematically, following the serial number order.

At the conclusion of the scrutiny, a total of thirty nomination papers filed by fifteen candidates were thoroughly examined. Twenty-four nomination papers belonging to thirteen candidates were accepted, while the nomination papers of two candidates were rejected.

With the acceptance of the majority of nomination papers, the stage is set for a competitive electoral contest in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 30th March 2024.
