Andaman & Nicobar Police Continues to Destroy Massive Quantity of Seized Drugs Ahead of Lok Sabha Poll

In the midst of preparations for the Lok Sabha Polls set to take place tomorrow, the Andaman & Nicobar Police have reaffirmed their commitment to creating drug-free islands through concerted efforts with all stakeholders. Continuing their extensive campaign against narcotics, the police have undertaken another significant step in drug destruction.

Today, on April 18, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the CID Unit, under the supervision of the UT Level Drug Disposal Committee chaired by Ms. Varsha Sharma (IPS), DIGP (L&O), initiated the disposal process of a substantial quantity of seized Methamphetamine. This operation marks a continuation of the momentum from the extensive drug destruction efforts that commenced on April 16, 2024.

The CID Unit, along with committee members including Mr. Rajeev Ranjan (IPS), SP (CID), Mr. Mohd. Irshad Haider (IPS), SP (HQ), and Kumar Abhishek, DySP (CID), collaborated with officers from the A&N Pollution Control Board, Envirocheck (for monitoring emitting pollutants), and GB Pant Hospital to ensure the meticulous execution of the disposal process.

Since April 16, 2024, a total of 101 case properties have been destroyed, comprising 79 kilograms of Ganja, 45.996 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 29 Cannabis Plants, 07 grams of Charas, 22 bottles of Codeine-based syrup, and 255 tablets of Nitrazepam & Alprazolam. The destruction was carried out using an incinerator at GB Pant Hospital, adhering strictly to all legal and procedural requirements. The entire process was recorded on video for transparency and accountability.

It’s noteworthy that these efforts come at a crucial time as the region prepares for the Lok Sabha Polls. The Andaman and Nicobar Police are leaving no stone unturned in their fight against the drug menace, ensuring a safe and peaceful environment for the electoral process. This drug disposal initiative underscores the unwavering commitment of the authorities to foster a drug-free community and uphold the integrity of democratic processes.
